Oh, That Dreadful Tea!, inspired by Robert Lawson’s beloved book Mr. Revere and I, celebrates the destruction of the British East Indian tea cargo by the Sons of Liberty in 1773. This engaging performance, written for grades 4-6, with catchy and memorable lyrics and an opening rap, helps elementary children learn history while performing, singing, and dancing in a play. As seen through Paul Revere’s family, the Daughters of Liberty, Sam Adams, and various citizens of Boston, this musical will enrich school lessons about early colonial America, the importance of having a representative government, and citizen engagement; all crucial tenets of a democratic society.
Ideal for schools, children’s theater, music classes, educational activities, programs, and festivals, Oh, That Dreadful Tea! allows children to bring to life an iconic event of the Revolutionary War, while gaining skills in singing, performing, and stage presence. Deborah A. Potee, author of Oh, That Dreadful Tea!, and Ruthanne Lowry Paulson, creator of the music and lyrics for Oh, That Dreadful Tea!, wish to share their work with classrooms, theaters, and audiences everywhere.
